Tasting notes

An attractive dark red with a brickish tint.
The nose is delicate but intense, on notes of spice, cedarwood and clove. The attack reveals pleasantly integrated tannins, while the mid-palate recalls black fruit flavours of cherry and blackcurrant. Minty flavours emerge on the harmonious and lingering finish.

Weather conditions

A mild and sunny winter caused early budbreak, on 21 March for the Merlot, 22 March for the Cabernet Franc and 4 April for the Cabernet Sauvignon. The weather pattern changed in April, with heavy rain encouraging rapid growth.

Hot and dry weather in May and June allowed for early, quick and very even flowering, with mid-flowering occurring between 3 and 6 June. Hot weather alternated with cooler periods in July, followed by a particularly hot and sultry August.

Veraison took place quickly and evenly, twelve days earlier than the average. The potential at that point was remarkable, identical to that of 1982 and 1989. Rain in September meant that it was not possible to realise the full potential of the crop, though it did not destroy the quality already present in the skins.

The grapes were healthy, highly coloured and full of flavour, holding out the promise of well-balanced, full-bodied wines.
